Top 10 Do’s and Don’ts for Web Designing

There are no absolute correct or wrong way to design a web site. But capturing the attention and interest of web visitors are very different to other types of media. Specially now a days, people want information right away in their finger tips, and you only have a few seconds to capture website visitors attention and offer them your service or product. They always wanted to see more attractive and easy to understand website.

Take these do’s and don’ts for effective web designing into consideration to help improve your skills and to easily avoid common beginner traps. We have compiled our own simple but helpful list of personal favorites that mostly bring success to getting each site standout.

1. Do: Keep it Simple!

Let’s accept the fact that people are lazy in scanning content or getting information when it comes to websites, they wanted it right away in a few clicks and scrolling. So don’t over complicate things, place things that are easy for them to read and interact.

2. Do: Choose the right color theme

Choosing the color theme for a website is critical so do some research on how other websites do it for the same niche of site you are building keep it in theme with what the website is all about. Ex. A Health niche website does not fit well on dark colors so better user light and lively colors like green, blue, white & any lighter colors.

3. Do: Pay attention to details

Every websites have small details that will enhance or break your design. So better do keep it right the first time rather than just forget about it and say ‘it is fine’ well in fact there is more appropriate details to place. Ex. You are designing a Restaurant niche website and you are using icons that does not seem to connect with it. What you can do is use appropriate & charming icons for it.

4. Do: Use appropriate and beautiful imagery

A website design is so attractive and good to the visitor view when using appropriate and beautiful images, don’t just use plain and any images on the site instead define what image to use and edit it to make it more look good.

5. Do: Know what the website is all about

Very simple but hard to determine. Designing and creating a website is not just putting every elements and sections together but you need to know what this website is all about, what the clients want it to be and what particular features and functions they wanted to be added. All of this can be discuss between you and the client, once you got the answers to these questions then you may need to do more research to come up with the best idea.

6. Don’t: Have to many different fonts & sizes

Be consistent and use header text like H1, H2 and etc. like for ex. Titles should be larger than the regular content text and it is not very good to use large text and fonts for this instead use the same font with the title and make it size smaller.

7. Don’t: Overdo the design

8. Don’t: Design it for one screen size only

Hey it is already mobile era so please design it responsive to every device. You can take out some content that is not compatible to mobiles like for ex. Popup optins are not that good on mobile, instead showing it on mobile why not just show it on larger screen like tablets and desktops.

9. Don’t: Overload the site

Consider page loads, so better not to place everything on the page and optimize it according to faster page load time. Try using Google Page Speed.

10. Don’t: Place too much Ads

Wanted this to keep simple, your website is for information or for products or for your services it is not a page to have as an Advertising board where all ads are place there. Even in blogs, this is a big turn off to visitor where all they can see are Ads and the information they are searching are just 30 – 100 words.
